Protoplanet is an award winning studio, specialized in 2D Character Animation, Design and Illustration in the heart of Berlin. By creating and bringing our characters to life, we want to make the world a little friendlier and brighter. Protoplanet is a well-coordinated and organized team of talented animators and designers that understands their craft. Creating, designing and animating 2D films is what we do and we love creating characters, stories and developing ideas with humour and sensitivity.

Our Services

Motion Graphics

We can stage logos, graphic elements, titles and typography, using a mixed approach from both hand-drawings and 2D computer animations.

Short Films

From design, to animation, to data output, we cover all production steps. We can advise on content concepts, create storyboards and animatics to make vivid projects, as well as develop design proposals.

Design & Illustration

Sometimes a still image is all that’s needed. Drawn figures are meaningful when appearing on a letterhead, as a logo or just on a coffee mug.

Commercials & Trailers

Drawn figures within advertising are eye-catchers and memorable, making a lasting impression and highly identifiable. Protoplanet characters give your products and services an unmistakable charm.

Explainer Films

Abstract concepts can be communicated through animation. Drawings make connections where video cannot, and it can simplify where photorealistic images might overflow with information.

Image Films

With an animation you can present what your company stands for in a compact and transparent way. You decide what you want to communicate and we can tell it.

Meet the Protoplanets

Antje Heyn – Creative Director

Antje studied visual communication at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee with a focus on animation and illustration. Her passion is developing characters and bringing them to life in the Protoplanet Studio. She is also an animation instructor, holding workshops for children and teaching at universities. Antje has an exceptional feeling for timing, movement and expression as well as details and subtleties, which makes her the perfect supervisor. She has a great sense for humanism, which she bestows on her animated creatures

Alexander Isert – Head of Animation & Script Artist

Alexander is a 2D animator and animation director. Having learnt his craft at Film University, Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, he’s been dividing his time between working on artistic short films and doing commissioned work for various clients; ranging from public broadcasters to independent animation studios and NGOs. His sense for animation is as soulful as it is down-to-earth.

Johanna Hochholzer – Artwork & Animation Assistant

Johanna studied fine arts at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) with Prof. Leiko Ikemura. While working as a visual artist and painter in her own right, she’s kept busy supporting Protoplanet Studio as an animation assistant and clean up artist. She’s got the patience of a saint and whenever we face story or narrative issues, she brings in just the right intuition and gut feeling.

Production and Technical Assistant and Communication Manager Danilo Grimm

Danilo Grimm – Administrator & Production Assistant

Danilo – sometimes called “Fix-it-Nilo” – studied Economics at Freie Universität Berlin. He’s mainly responsible for technical tasks such as DCP creation, post-production and rendering. He also takes care of the protoplanet website – with him being a web analyst by profession coming in just handy. To sum it up, he does all the things nobody else wants to do 🙂
